Cascade Commercial Non-Profit Representation.

I have had the pleasure to advise, consult and represent dozens of non-profit organizations in making smart decisions regarding their space utilization and commercial real estate requirements for many years now. Having volunteered and been on multiple non-profit boards, I often see how these impactful and noble organizations make missteps and less than prudent decisions regarding how they rent, own, develop and manage their spaces and properties which is often one of the most important and costly aspects of their existence and mission. I have achieved some recent successes as listed below.

City Team Ministries has been in Portland since the 1980s with their programs to assist men in their journey to sobriety. Located in a failing decrepit building in the close in eastside for decades, the building was falling apart and provided a huge challenge for the residents in their highly successful programs. The costs to fix the building were huge and not smart as their programs and people they serve was growing and they had bigger ambitions for Portland. So after reviewing dozens of buildings with them, we together found a beautifully restored 30,000 sf historical building in Old Town that after many months of due diligence they purchased to triple their programs and the people they serve as they endeavor to be a catalyst for change and prosperity in the down trodden Old Town neighborhood. City Team completed their renovations last fall and opened to a full house this past fall.

The Peer Company (formerly the Mental Health and Addiction Resource Association) is one of the most successful and preeminent mental health and addiction treatment organizations in our city. Using a highly effective peer-to-peer model where most of their counselors and therapists have lived experience with addictions and homelessness making their programs much more effective and sought after.   I as able to represent them in moving their administrative headquarters from a poor inefficient space to larger (15,000 sf) and much more modern space that was actually less rent per month! I also assisted in their purchase of properties adjacent to their new clinic on SE Powell where they look to build a 40 unit high service apartment project for their clients transitioning back into successful lives. The Peer Group is making a huge difference in our community in an area where the need is so great and was privileged to help them expand.

PHAME is a 40 year old organization that has provided all sorts of programs and workshops around many artistic disciplines along with important socialization for adults with physical and intellectual disabilities. They have long operated out a cramped space in a northeast church. They purchased an industrial building from me but their dream to create a modern campus ran into exorbitant costs. I was able to resell the building to get them out of this financial challenge and find some great leased space in a perfect neighborhood. PHAME is now well positioned to expand their programs and who they can serve.

Transition Projects (TPI) is one of most amazing social service and housing providers to our most vulnerable citizens. For over 60 years TPI has helped thousands of people on their journey from homelessness to housing, stability and employment, many of them veterans.  They are angels among us. I have volunteered with them for over a decade and was happy to help them relocate their housing placement group to new modern and bright office space in close southwest Portland.
